Jerry and Barbara Sandoz

Jerry Sandoz became a missionary with One Mission Society in South Korea in 1972 following an assignment with the World Relief Commission in South Vietnam and South Korea. Jerry became active in numerous OMS ministries, serving as field treasurer and business manager for all OMS South Korea ministries, working with Every Creature Crusade programs, serving on the board of Seoul Theological University, and serving as treasurer at Seoul Union Church. In 1992 Jerry became South Korea field leader and served in that capacity until 1996.

Barbara met Jerry in South Korea while traveling with a Campus Crusade for Christ evangelistic music group in 1973. While on tour, she became interested in long-term service in South Korea just weeks before meeting Jerry. After their marriage in 1975, Barbara taught English at Seoul Theological University, taught kindergarten and middle school music at Seoul Foreign School, led English Bible classes with Korean women in the community, took leadership in Christian Women’s Club, led the children and adult choirs at Seoul Union Church, and helped with mission hospitality.

In 1997, the Sandozes relocated to the OMS World Headquarters in Greenwood, Indiana, where Jerry began working in the Finance Department. In February 2000, he was named treasurer of OMS until retiring from this position June 30, 2014. Barbara’s work has been varied: administrative assistant to the President’s wife, then ministry to the missionary kids (MKs), helping in the early stages of Hope61 (OMS’ human trafficking prevention ministry), and lastly, filling various administrative needs in the Communications Department, which she will continue after retirement in November 2014. Extended missionary service will allow for Jerry and Barb to continue at headquarters as needed and to make annual missions trips where there is a short-term need.

Jerry is a graduate of George Fox University with a major in mathematics. Barbara trained in music education and graduated from Westminster Choir College. The Sandozes have three adult children—Josh, Debbie and Jeff—and six grandchildren.
