Mary Lou Wunker

Mary Lou was raised in a Christian home where missions was a priority. Through her family’s regular prayer and support of worldwide missions, and with missionaries being frequent visitors in her church and home, she made a commitment to serve the Lord while still in elementary school.

After teaching for five years in Canada, Mary Lou was directed to teaching missionary children in Haiti. She has a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Nyack College in Nyack, New York, and a master’s degree in elementary education from Pensacola Christian College in Florida.

Mary Lou served in Haiti with One Mission Society for more than 30 years, beginning in 1980. Her first assignment was teaching at Cowman International School, where she taught at all levels, kindergarten through eighth grade, at some point during her time there. She also served as the principal. Cowman School provides an education for missionary children, as well as reaching out to other English-speaking children in northern Haiti.

Mary Lou filled many other roles on the Haiti field as well, including several years as the administrator and academic dean for Emmaus Biblical Seminary. She also worked with the Emmaus Fellowship of Churches, Every Community for Christ (ECC), and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Haiti Advisory Council.

In 2011, the Lord led Mary Lou back to Canada, where she has been working with the Canadian office of One Mission Society. She serves in Member Care, edits the bimonthly OMS Canada prayer bulletin, works with applicants and missionary candidates, and serves as the compliance officer. Her years of field experience equips her to liaison between the Canadian office and the overseas ministries.
