Karen McGill

Tim and Karen McGill served at Morrison Academy in Taiwan for 37 years. The school exists to meet the educational needs of the children of missionaries in Taiwan but also reaches out to the children of other expatriates in the business community. Morrison is a school system serving more than 1,000 students on four campuses in different cities. One Mission Society is one of the four evangelical missions that steward Morrison Academy.

Tim was born and reared in Taiwan as the son of missionaries who were Bible translators for one of the aboriginal tribes. He received a bachelor’s degree in math from the University of Waterloo in 1977, and in 1985, he received a master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University.

Tim began his work at Morrison as a dorm parent with his first wife, Bonnie, who died in April 2019 from pancreatic cancer. Before his current position as superintendent, he served as dorm supervisor and then director of finance for the school. He also served as the OMS field treasurer and on the board of Central Taiwan Theological Seminary, which is affiliated with One Mission Society.

Karen grew up in Indiana and graduated from Taylor University in 1976 with a degree in elementary education. While teaching in Detroit, she obtained her master’s degree in education from Oakland University. She also worked with the youth and as a secretary in her local church in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Karen began working at Morrison Academy in 1983 as an elementary teacher. In addition to teaching second and third grades, Karen mentored high school girls, was involved with various extracurricular school activities, helped at educational conferences for families living in restricted areas of Asia, and accompanied several high school mission trips. She returned to the U.S. in 2019 upon her retirement from Morrison.

Tim and Karen were married on June 26, 2020. Following Tim’s retirement in July 2021, they relocated to be near Karen’s family in Indiana.
