Elaine Lain
Missionary Account: #801198Eugene and Elaine Lain served as associate regional directors for One Mission Society in the northeast U.S. from 1993 to 1998, concentrating in western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, western New York and western Maryland. In this capacity, they assisted churches in planning missions programs. In addition to scheduling missionary speakers from OMS fields, they presented challenges from their experiences in Haiti.
The Lains joined OMS in 1972. After language school and internship, they served in Haiti from 1975 until 1986. Eugene taught and was academic dean of the Emmaus Vocational Bible College in Cap Haitien. Elaine taught there as well, and she taught missionary children at Cowman International School. From 1986 until 1990, the Lains were OMS campus representatives at Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. While there, Eugene completed a master’s of divinity equivalency from Asbury Theological Seminary. After serving as campus representatives, the Lains returned to Haiti where they served from in 1990–1993.
Eugene graduated from Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute and Asbury College before receiving a master’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University and taking graduate courses at Temple University. He received the doctor of missiology degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in May 1998. He was in the pastorate for 12 years before joining OMS.
After retiring from active service with OMS in June 1998, Eugene worked as associate pastor at the Church of the Nazarene in Oil City, Pennsylvania, until September 1999. In this capacity, he worked primarily with the youth program of the church. Gene passed away in August 2010.
