Tom and Susan Stiles
Missionary Account: #801431As a missionary team in Ecuador for more than 35 years with One Mission Society, Tom and Susan Stiles worked in church planting and evangelism among the Quichua Indians in Saraguro. They also have worked with medical team ministries, Good Shepherd Radio, women’s and children’s ministries, and have been involved in home Bible studies. Tom and Susan live in Catamayo, Loja Province, They are reaching out to the West Loja area, focusing on the county of Chaguarpamba. They continue to visit Saraguro and Cuenca for training and encouragement. In 1979, as a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in agriculture, Tom taught beekeeping and Bible at the Sinai Bible Institute in Ecuador as an OMS missionary for one year. He returned to Ecuador in 1981 with OMS NOW Corps to work in evangelism in the city of Loja. Susan graduated from Erie Community College in New York with an associate degree in dental hygiene. She then earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in education degree from the University of Kentucky. For two years, she worked in a rural dental clinic in North Carolina. Prior to her marriage to Tom, she taught dental hygiene at the University of Missouri. Susan was among other crusaders who participated in an intense evangelistic thrust in 1980 in Loja, Ecuador, south of Saraguro. Sharing a common love for Ecuadorians and a desire to see them brought to Christ, Tom and Susan married in 1982. He pastored three small United Methodist churches in southern Indiana while completing his masters of divinity program at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. Tom also received a Ph.D. in intercultural studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1996. Tom and Susan have three grown daughters Nicole, Becki, and Sara, and eight grandchildren.
