David and Carol Cosby

David and Carol are opening Venezuela as the newest field for One Mission Society. David serves as field director and dean of the Wesleyan Seminary of Venezuela, supervises new extension locations for the seminary and directs the work of volunteer teams in remodeling and construction at the seminary. Carol is the field treasurer and hostess to visiting teams, and she disciples Venezuelan women in ministry.

From 2010 to 2013, the Cosbys served in Mexico where David served as field director and taught at the Biblical Seminary of Mexico and Carol served as the treasurer for OMS Mexico. Though no longer based in Venezuela, David continued to travel there several times a year to teach in the seminary.

Joining OMS in 1975, the Cosbys were assigned to youth evangelism and discipleship in Medellin, Colombia. Graduates of Asbury College, David and Carol returned to Wilmore, Kentucky, in 1979 for David to attend Asbury Theological Seminary. He completed a master of divinity degree in 1982 and a master of arts in religion degree in 1983.

In 1985, the Cosbys returned to Colombia, where David taught Greek, Bible and theology courses at the Biblical Seminary of Colombia in Medellin. Carol served as coordinator for women’s discipleship groups, translator of student testimonies and hostess to OMS guests. David has translated three books into Spanish and written books in Spanish on the study of Hebrew poetry and the Holy Spirit.

The Cosbys were assigned to OMS headquarters in Greenwood, Indiana, in 1989. David served as director of Homeland Ministries. On a survey trip to Eastern Europe in 1991, David saw the potential for OMS outreach in Hungary. He and Carol accepted the challenge and served in Budapest from 1992-1997. David was field leader and taught at the Central European Bible Institute and the John Wesley College. Carol served as hostess while overseeing the education of their children.

In 1997, the Cosbys began service in Mexico, where David was professor and academic dean of the Biblical Seminary of Mexico. Carol filled positions of field treasurer and director of the school for missionaries’ children.

David and Carol moved to Barquisimeto, Venezuela, in 2006 to work in cooperation with Venezuela NOW to found the Wesleyan Seminary of Venezuela and to establish the United Methodist Church of Venezuela. David taught the first seminary course in 2002 and continued to teach four times a year prior to their full-time assignment. David served as academic dean of the seminary, which has 75 students, and mentored pastors. Carol served in ministry to pastors’ wives and missionary families, as hostess to visiting professors and as treasurer of the seminary.
