Ecuador Emergency Earthquake Relief
On April 16, 2016, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the northwest region of Ecuador, devastating miles and miles of coastline, as well as toppling hundreds of buildings and destroying dozens of highways inland.
Nearly 700 people died and thousands more are seriously injured. Our OMS team, made up of OMS missionaries, national coworkers, and church association members are partnering with Extreme Response, along with several other mission organizations, combining our efforts to meet the needs of the Ecuadorian people.
Plans are being made for both short-term relief and to help people in the region for the longer term.
Plans to help include starting a soup kitchen, distributing basic relief kits, opening a refuge center, and providing counseling to those in need.
Thanks to the generosity of a donor and the work of Dennis Hardin, President of Mercy, Inc. (our OMS-related relief and development ministry), we have a matching grant of $100,000. Knowing that $25 becomes $50 and $500 become $1,000 is encouraging. Will you prayerfully join us in this effort? Thank you so much for making a difference for Christ in the lives of hurting people in Ecuador. Please continue to pray for the people of Ecuador.
