Sometimes God heals immediately, sometimes he heals later, and sometimes not at all. That’s what Scott, an OMS missionary serving in northeast Thailand, explained to a woman who had never put her faith in Christ.
Scott and two other teammates had been sharing the Gospel with a woman who was very interested but not yet ready to respond. “How about you think about it, and we’ll come back in a couple of days,” Scott suggested to her. Before they left, he asked if they could pray for her.
The woman agreed and shared that her back had been extremely sore for the past three years. They explained something to her, “Sometimes God heals immediately, sometimes he heals later, and sometimes not at all.”
Before they prayed, he asked her to be completely honest about what she experienced afterward. He wanted her to know they weren’t trying to pressure her into saying anything that wasn’t true. She agreed to be honest.
The group bowed their heads and prayed for her. After the prayer, Scott looked up and said, “All right, now test it.”
She moved around a bit and said, “It's a lot lighter.”
“What percent better?” They asked.
“Fifty percent,” She replied.
“Can we pray for you again?” Scott asked.
So once again, they bowed their heads. “It’s gone. It’s gone. The pain is gone!” she exclaimed.
Scott explained that her miraculous healing was God showing her a glimpse of his love and that he has so much more to offer. Then they asked whether she was ready to respond to him. “Yes, I am,” she said. That day, the woman placed her faith in Christ.
Today, Scott and his wife, Sarah, are multiplying disciples and churches throughout northeast Thailand, a region of 23 million people, where only about 0.2 percent of the population identify as Christian. Their prayer is for spiritual protection for their family and team in the Asia/Pacific region and for open hearts among local people to receive the Good News of Jesus.
