I serve in OMS USA’s Marketing & Communication Department. My role is to tell God’s story, hoping it will inspire others to join us in fulfilling the Great Commission. However, I often fall into the trap of believing that sharing the most compelling story, complete with eye-catching graphics, photos, and plenty of flair, will cause people to flood our doors, wanting to join OMS. But that's not true! Creating beautiful material may help, but without God and the prompting of the Holy Spirit, people won't be inspired to leave their families and friends, learn a new language, and raise funds to support their mission.
Our Development Department can meet with generous donors and partner churches to seek their partnership in ministry, and missionaries can develop creative ways to demonstrate our need for support. However, without God’s hand of blessing, it will fail. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. His supply never runs out, but the blessing comes through him, not our creative requests.
Our missionaries serving in 84 countries around the world can work tirelessly and faithfully to share the Gospel message with many, but without the Lord’s touch and intervention, the words shared will be meaningless to the unbeliever.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps,” which shows that we may make plans, but it is God who ultimately guides our paths.
So, let’s keep working hard, stay creative, and ask for help, but the most important thing we can do is ask God for his blessing, because without God …
