Third Culture Kid Member Care Specialist

Get Started
The TCK Member Care provider serves missionary families by supporting the emotional, developmental, and spiritual well-being of Third Culture Kids (TCK's). This role offers consistent, relational care across the mission lifecycle — from pre-field preparation, deployment, commissioning, through field service and into reentry and early adulthood.

Through personal connection, including home visits as needed, ongoing communication, and intentional presence, the TCK member care provider nurtures a sense of belonging and stability for TCKs. The role includes equipping parents, walking alongside children and youth through transitions, maintaining supportive connections with TCKs in college, and fostering care through meaningful gestures such as celebrating milestones and providing encouragement. Working collaboratively with parents, field leaders, regional directors, and member care teams, this position helps ensure that TCKs and their families are well-supported and strengthened for long-term service.

  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills, with the ability to build trust across cultures and age groups
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability in diverse and changing environments
  • Solid understanding of child and adolescent development, especially within cross-cultural contexts
  • Ability to provide emotional support, basic counseling, and crisis response when needed
  • Ability to equip and coach parents in supporting their children’s well-being
  • The training and ability to identify when TCKs, their parents, or family need referral for professional care
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential matters
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities

  • Formal training or coursework related to child development, family systems, and cross-cultural care (may be attained on the job)
  • Prior experience working with children and adolescents in multicultural or international settings
  • Familiarity with missionary life and the unique challenges faced by TCKs strongly preferred
  • Experience in counseling, pastoral care, or member care roles is an asset
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and statement of faith of the organization

  • Recognize and respond to emotional, behavioral, or developmental concerns, providing appropriate care, guidance, and referrals as needed
  • Provide grief and crisis support and facilitate referrals to qualified professional services when necessary
  • Support parents in rearing children within cross-cultural contexts, offering guidance on developmental, emotional, and relational needs or referring parents to professional providers
  • Conduct home or field visits, as appropriate and needed
  • Develop and deliver, or provide access to, training, workshops, and orientation materials related to TCK care for parents, staff, and field leaders in consultation with and approval of the Member Care Director
  • Curate and distribute resources that support family resilience, cultural adaptation, education, and emotional well-being in consultation with and approval of the Member Care Director
