Serve as a champion of missionary care, empowering OMS personnel to thrive spiritually, personally, and professionally as they advance God's mission around the world.

The Regional Member Care Specialist serves to make member care more accessible and responsive across OMS fields, fostering the personal, spiritual, and professional growth of missionaries. This role equips OMS personnel to thrive in cross-cultural ministry by providing compassionate care, meaningful connection, and practical support that strengthen resilience and promote long-term effectiveness. Through intentional relationships and proactive member care, the Regional Member Care Specialist helps missionaries flourish as they faithfully fulfill God's calling and advance His mission.

Note: This role is located in Asia.


Skills, Education, and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Training in relational skills.
  • Four years of experience helping, coaching, mentoring, encouraging, etc. with individuals, couples, families, and groups.
  • Preferred to have cross-cultural, mission-context experience.
  • Preferred to have National Board-Certified Christian Life Coach - appropriate certification with mission-context experience.
  • Counseling, clinical, and pastoral licenses are a plus.
  • Builds relationships that enhance the operations and mission of OMS and foster trust among missionaries within their care; demonstrates high emotional intelligence.
  • Engages team and field members effectively and contributes to a positive environment that maximizes engagement and results; demonstrates high cultural intelligence.
  • Exercises tact and discretion in handling sensitive information and situations arising in counseling and coaching, while appropriately addressing “need-to-know” issues for risk mitigation and leadership awareness.
  • Applies technical training and skill in managing cases from both a clinical and biblical perspective.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Presents information clearly through spoken, written, and digital formats; demonstrates proficiency in, or the ability to learn, digital communication platforms (e.g., Zoom).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Engages personnel in dialogue to address stress and personal challenges related to well-being.
  • Facilitates transition briefings with spouses and children in field assignments or reassignments.
  • Liaises for Third Culture Kid (TCK) issues, MK re-entry (including transition to college).
  • Interacts (formally and informally) with all regional staff for the purpose of providing support and encouragement as well as addressing situations of challenge and stress.
  • Will provide individual/family coaching/counseling/assessment/mediation through the HUB, helping those who may be in crisis or who are seeking rest/restoration/and renewal of relationships and or further skill advancement.
  • Participates and coaches leadership in handling of situations that are emotionally charged (e.g. grief, discipline, death, etc.)
  • Works with leadership to promote awareness of personal responsibility of all staff.
  • Provides a monthly report to the Member Care Director.
  • Provides a quarterly report to the Regional Directors.
  • Assists, as requested, in personnel decisions that involve discipline, layoffs, termination, etc.
  • Identifies and builds relationships with world-wide counseling and care resources.
  • Stays abreast of major issues that impact home church, sending agency and missionary.
  • Educates and informs on how to access material and resources.
  • Recommends training and equipping resources to develop leadership in handling staff issues. Advises leadership in situations where they need support and care.
  • Regularly visit assigned fields to develop deeper relationships and a greater understanding of each field context and the dynamics of the team. Based on experience and needs assessments, will collaborate to create and provide training opportunities both through the HUB and at field events that will help missionaries to develop/strengthen their cultures of connection and care.
  • Participates in-person at Missionary Council meetings.
  • Intentionally pursues ongoing education relevant to the responsibilities of this role.
