Ecuador - Embark - English Ministry

The Latin America region has a vision to transform lives in dynamic communities. You'll serve in your area of focus while being part of localized summer ministry experiences. You'll also be poured into by a team of missionaries as you learn more about your gifts and passions. Our hope for this experience is that you will grow in your relationship with God, expand your skill set, be more prepared to disciple people from other cultures, and perhaps discern a long-term call to missions and ministry.

Lugar de Shalom, also known as Camp Pallatanga, is a camp in Central Ecuador. The camp has the capacity of 120 campers and is used for many different ministries. The various ministries include general retreats, training retreats, pastor retreats, and different activities of national churches. You will be working alongside groups or during retreats. You will use your passion to teach English in the tutoring program during English camps and after school tutoring. You will also be involved with the English ministry program at Agua Viva Church in the town of Chongón.

Responsibilities

• Be able to have fun with teenagers and build rapport.
• Help to plan, teach, and lead English lessons and activities.
• Assist students during study times and exercises.
• Lead an English conversation group using pre-designed materials and flexible format.
• Be willing to share your testimony and beliefs in an honest and friendly way.
• Must be willing to participate in several Zoom calls prior to trip to discuss expectations and process.

Skills

• High School Diploma or GED required, some college preferred.
• Willingness to find common ground with people despite language barriers and cultural differences.
• Comfortable sharing and talking with new acquaintances.
• Able to relax and have fun in varied environments.
• Have some knowledge and experience working with the Spanish language.
• ESL training may be helpful but is not required.

Other Information

• You will be serving from early-June to early-August.
• You will live at Camp Pallatanga in a dormitory.
• Cost is $4,300 (includes travel expenses).
• This is a volunteer internship that requires raising financial support through ministry partners.

During your time with Embark you will serve with One Mission Society, build relationships with youth and young adults, receive mentorship from experienced missionaries, work alongside a team of other like-minded OMS interns, expand and hone your skill set, and grow in your ministry approach to evangelism, discipleship and communicating your testimony.
