Making an Impact in Troubling Times
Making an Impact in Troubling Times
COVID-19 has affected 210 nations worldwide, with more than 3 million cases and nearly 250,000 deaths to date and counting. Even as we deal with a new normal and our own personal challenges, we want to offer hope in the midst of despair. Here are a few opportunities for us to impact the world.
“The coronavirus is affecting everybody here … all of Africa. Poverty is increasing. Fear and other diseases are attacking. They fear to go to hospital. The rules of the government are so strong with curfew and lockdown. Everything has become very expensive. People are suffering. Only God can help.” –Claude Djabene, Village Church Planting Director for Africa, based in Lome, Togo
In India, because Christians have not been able to join together for worship, most also do not give their tithes and offerings. The Evangelical Church of India, our partner denomination, has no way to meet the daily needs of their pastors, even for their basic survival.
In Central Asia, the team regularly distributes food packages to the poor. Due to lockdown restrictions, they were not going to be able to. But they appealed to government leaders and received an unexpected response. They not only issued a pass to each of our staff members to freely go through the streets but also assisted us in buying items and packing the packages. When we started distributing them, the head of the local government asked, “We have 51 more families that need urgent food aid, could you help them also?” But we are severely limited in resources …
We have dozens more examples of urgent needs, including prisoners in Colombia, flood victims in the DRC, families in South Asia, etc. We sadly hear, “We may die of hunger before the coronavirus.”
In these uncertain times, we have unprecedented opportunities to save lives, give hope, and transform hearts for Jesus ... even in some countries that are typically closed to OMS. Would you prayerfully consider giving to our Worldwide Relief Fund to help those affected by COVID-19 and difficult life situations?
One Mission Society USA, along with OMS Global and our partner compassion ministry, Mercy, inc, is joining hands to give aid and hope in Jesus to those that need it the most.
Thank you for prayerfully considering a donation.
