Silas and Rahab Waweru

Silas and Rahab Waweru have been assigned the task of training and empowering indigenous national leaders in Kenya with One Mission Society. They will also be involved in theological education and equipping church leaders to make intentional disciples for all nations. Their ministries also involve reaching out to marginalized peoples and unreached people groups and their communities through compassionate ministries.

Silas and Rahab received Christ in their teenage years while in high school. They were nurtured through student ministries in their respective schools. While Silas attended Kenyatta University and Rahab attended Machakos Teachers’ College, they were both actively involved in student outreach ministries.

Silas graduated from Kenyatta University in Nairobi in 1990 with a B.Ed. in business and economics. He earned his master of divinity degree (missions studies) at Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (African International University), graduating in 2004. He received a Ph.D. in intercultural studies from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, in 2010.

Rahab has an associate’s degree in teacher education from Machakos Teachers College in Kenya (1989) and an associate’s degree in Christian ministries (2003) from Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (African International University). Rahab also earned a bachelor of science degree in management and ethics from Asbury University (2009).

Upon graduating from university, Silas taught high school for 11 years and eventually became a deputy principal. Rahab taught middle and elementary school for 12 years. They both accepted the call to full-time ministry and resigned their jobs to attend seminary in 2001.

The Wawerus’ first ministry assignment was as itinerant evangelists and church planters. They pastored and planted many churches with Glory Outreach Assembly (GOA) in Kenya. They were also trained national leaders with International Leadership Institute (ILI) in various East and Central African countries.

While attending seminary in the United States, Silas and Rahab founded Providence Training Centre, a school for marginalized pastors, and later cofounded Care to Learn International, a not-for-profit organization that supports pastoral training and community outreach. Currently, they train and equip leaders and disciple-makers for churches in Kenya to fulfil the Great Commission through Equip and Release Africa, an OMS-related charitable organization in Kenya.

Silas and Rahab have one son grown son, Solomon Macharia, who is married to Ashley.
