Micah and Marla Routon

Let God be praised for what he has done in Brazil. More than 60 years ago, One Mission Society missionaries arrived in Brazil to share the Gospel, gather new believers together in churches, and train emerging Brazilian church leaders. Today, the Brazilian churches started by OMS are strong, with a core of trained leaders who are casting their own vision and goals. Their mission statement, “Brasil ao encontro com Deus,” reflects their desire to expand beyond the cities and states where a strong Gospel presence already exists, giving every person in Brazil an opportunity for an encounter with God.

In 2004, the Routons arrived in Brazil as part of an eXtreme Walk team. In the following years, they increased their language, cultural, and ministry skills by working in local churches. In 2008, One Mission Society appointed Micah as OMS Brazil field leader. Shortly after that, the field vision and strategy was redefined with a focus in assisting the national church to establish new churches in regions of Brazil that lack a strong evangelical presence of sound doctrine.

Today, the Routons are pastoring a church in the city of Olinda, Pernambuco. The goal is to use this church as a base from which other disciple-making churches can be planted throughout the region.

Micah and Marla both grew up in Christian families and decided at an early age to follow Christ wherever he led. Micah’s path to OMS led through George Fox University, where he graduated in May 2000 with a degree in youth ministries and a minor in art. After graduation, Micah began working with OMS and for four years was the personal assistant to the international director of Every Community for Christ, OMS’ church multiplication catalyst. His interests and passions include working with young people, discipling, sports ministry, music, and photography.

Marla grew up in Alaska and also followed God’s leading to attend George Fox University. She graduated in May 2000 with a teaching degree and spent a year teaching and coaching at a high school before reconnecting and falling in love with Micah. From a young age, Marla has enjoyed working with and taking care of children, and much of her ministry passion is child and family related.
