Warren and Velma Hardig

In 1970, as a successful businessman and new Christian, Warren Hardig visited OMS mission work in the country of Haiti. On a mountain trail a Haitian beggar dropped to his knees, urging Warren to make him a Christian. This God-directed event became the catalyst for Warren's missionary commitment. Convinced of lay-witness effectiveness, he left his business in 1973 to represent Men For Missions, the laymen's voice of One Mission Society.

As Central Regional Director, Warren coordinated this laymen's movement over a fourteen-state area for more than eight years. Organizing laymen into councils, he then accompanied them for participation and observation of OMS mission projects in Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

Following a year as U.S. Director of MFM, Warren was named International Director. Providing the leadership for worldwide MFM activities, he is the liaison between MFM and OMS since 1983. Warren is also the author of one of MFM's best-selling books, Iron Sharpens Iron, the story of his personal journey and of key people who changed his life forever. It has been translated into Hungarian, Russian, and Spanish. Warren has contributed to the book, Effective Men’s Ministry published by the National Coalition of Men’s Ministry. The book is designed to be a tool kit for your church. Chapter twenty-five is titled "Life Changing Short-term Missions". Warren is also a regular contributor to the official publication of MFM ACTION Magazine. In MFM’s most recent book, Of Guts and Grace, 50 years with MFM by Carroll Ferguson Rader, tells more of Warren’s adventure of faith.

Since Warren and Velma have come on staff of MFM, they have taken hundreds of people on teams to minister in 40 countries. From 1992, they have helped more than 225 people get to Russia to serve the Lord for short-term missions trips and some are still serving. Velma is an assistant to the International Director and has been responsible for many logistical details of a person’s trip to a foreign mission field, which Warren leads. Velma also works on foundation requests for funding of major projects. Warren and Velma also speak in many church meetings and missions conferences. Velma is especially capable of challenging the women. She also provides hospitality for many MFM guests, and other missions’ guests, as well as working with the MFM women's auxiliary.

The Hardigs have two married children, Roger and Renee.

One Mission Society is an evangelical, interdenominational faith mission that makes disciples of Jesus Christ through intentional evangelism, planting churches and training national leaders in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and Latin America. OMS then joins with those churches in global partnerships to reach the rest of the world.

MFM exists to challenge people with the unfinished task of reaching the lost for Christ. The challenge of MFMI is:

  • Do whatever God asks you to do
  • Go wherever God asks you to go
  • Give whatever God asks you to give
