Karey’s journey with One Mission Society started with a Dynamic Women in Missions trip in 2013. While sitting in the pew at church one Sunday, she heard an announcement for a mission trip to Ecuador. Her husband poked her in the ribs with his elbow, and she thought, “Maybe I could go …” By trusting God for the provisions for that trip, she began a journey of intentional evangelism.
Karey lives in Charleston, South Carolina, with her husband and their three daughters. She works as a part-time family medicine physician. Her experiences traveling with DWIM have allowed her to use her medical skills to be an extension of God’s hands and feet.
Karey has always had a heart for missions but considering herself “too busy” to do the work. “Dynamic Women showed me how to get out of the pew to be more involved in ministry. It’s an incredible blessing!”
Dynamic Women in Missions (DWIM) began as a vision of OMS missionary Susan Brabon in 2007 when she saw many young women in Mexico who desperately needed to see their value in Christ. She dreamed of a ministry that could offer them support and encourage them to reach out to other women.
In 2008, OMS formally launched DWIM as a ministry to challenge women in local churches to use their God-given gifts to connect, equip, and minister to other women around the world.
From its inception, DW has existed to motivate women around the world to engage in the Great Commission in a personal and profound way. We encourage women to see the lost and hurting of the world, to share God’s message of grace with them, and to challenge others to a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
Today, OMS missionary Sam Downey leads the team, with the support of a committed advisory board. OMS missionary Pat Dragon, who serves with Every Community for Christ, coordinates Dynamic Women’s efforts to train national women in Asia to share the Gospel. In one country where DW has invested in the women who are often overlooked as a valuable ministry resource, the women have planted 42 churches. In 2017, DW will train women in four additional OMS fields.
DWIM offers conferences and workshops, as well as mission trips around the world, focusing on prayer, medical needs, Train & Multiply church-planting training and evangelism teams. Click here to view opportunities in 2017.
