What Might Happen? Learning about T&M

April 1 2015

What might happen if we could mobilize ordinary people to go into the great harvest fields at our doorsteps and start church multiplication movements?

In 2013, by the grace of God and through the ministry of One Mission Society, ordinary people did an extraordinary thing – they started more than 19,500 worshiping groups. They did this by being empowered by the Holy Spirit and by being equipped with a simple tool – Train & Multiply (T&M).

So just what is Train & Multiply?

Train & Multiply is a comprehensive leadership development program to help start and organize reproducing local churches, which can lead to a church multiplication movement.

It starts slow, with just a few people, but builds into a rapidly multiplying movement of disciples, leaders, and churches. In one-on-one or small group settings, motivated believers learn how to share their faith, how to disciple new believers, and how to gather those new disciples into healthy, growing churches. These disciples and churches then multiply themselves through 2 nd, 3rd, 4th, and even 5 th generations. And in the process, the disciples learn how to become strong, effective leaders.

T&M is a unique, menu-based leadership training/coaching approach that provides simple, easy-to-understand biblical training guides to equip ordinary Christians to start multiplying movements of disciples, churches, and leaders.

In the next five years (2015-2020), the goal is to start 414,000 new worshiping groups with the use of Train & Multiply.

We credit a very simple truth with the success of T&M: ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they are empowered by the Holy Spirit and equipped with the right tools .

NOTE: Watch for exciting stories of lives being transformed through this powerful tool throughout the month of April.

Multiply the Well

Multiply the Well

Kenel Clovis Claudion, a professor in elementary school, was recommended by Pastor Exalus of Port Margo mother church to be a church planter. He planted a station at Bois Gauche in the area of Port Margo.  They meet in the courtyard of the parents of Luxima Cassandra.

Trainer Janiel has trained Kenel for three years. An Uncle of Kenel died through magic of Voodoo.  The same people who killed his uncle wanted to kill him also.

After Kenel’s uncle died on Wednesday night 17 August 2011, he was sleeping. He woke up suddenly as if a dog had barked.  He said “Lord, take control of me”.

Some minutes later he felt his body had been hit hard on his left leg.  He cried “Hallelujah, Hallelujah!  When he got up in the morning his left leg was swollen and very painful. These same events happened also the nights of August 19 and 26.  He thought he was going to die.  He talked with his Trainer Janiel so he could pray with him.  They PRAYED! After this the attacks ceased.

At this time they were studying the building of the wall by Nehemiah from the Train and Multiply booklet # 20. Kenel came to realize that even though the enemy was persecuting him he needed to stand fast in his faith.   God was working for him.

He said “Through ECC I find support in my walk with Christ and through Train and Multiply, I have a greater desire to announce the Good News and put God’s word into practice.” Kenel said, “I am praying to God that this program will touch the world”. Please pray with us that this ministry will be very fruitful in my area of Bois Gauche.”

The situation now:

He has married and continues in the ministry.  There are now 38 people attending the Bois Gauche Station meetings.  Kenel has trained a young woman, Luxima Cassandra who has planted a station at Bertin with a mother and four children who to this time have not yet accepted Christ.  She is also training Doudalande.

God continues to multiply disciples through the lives of His faithful servants.

Haiti - Spring Up O Well

Haiti - Spring Up O Well

Trainer Janiel traveled to Bois Neuf in 2012 to do evangelism. While there, he was led by the Holy Spirit to share the Gospel with a woman named Rosemyka, but she did not want to listen. Janiel started a station at Bois Neuf, but again, Rosemyke refused to join.

Janiel realized that the people of Bois Neuf did not have a good source of water. They had been getting water from an open stream. The Lord cleared the way to make it possible to drill a well at Bois Neuf. Janiel continued to meet with the station. One day, as Janiel was studying the Train & Multiply booklets, he saw Rosemyka and approached. He gave her the booklet on training a pastoral leader.

Later, Janiel invited her to discuss the booklet with him. They worked through the booklet together, and Rosemyka responded to the questions. They met several times, and Janiel asked Rosemyka if she wanted to accept Christ. Rosemyka said she already had.

They continued to study Train & Multiply booklets, moving on to “When We Baptize Believers.” Rosemyka said she wanted to be baptized, but after being baptized, she was persecuted through dreams. She spoke to Janiel, and they started studying the “Let’s Pray” booklet. Rosemyka has been sleeping much better since then.

Rosemyka’s mother was not a Christian, but accepted Christ because of what she observed in her daughter. Rosemyka is now training her entire family and sharing with students at school. She tells all who have recently accepted Christ to read the Bible, pray and study with a small group. She testifies, “God has all power and can deliver. Pray that I will remain faithful to the Lord and to the Word.”

Strength in the Heat!

Strength in the Heat!

Monday...

Tonight we ate in the home of Adam’s family. He is a doctor who lives in a very humble home by our standards, serving the poor here in the city of Thirupati, Andhra Pradesh. Adam, along with his wife Shamah and two children, live with Adam’s parents. Our ECC coordinator, Pastor Sundar Raj and wife Marysha (Adam’s sister) were also there. It was a delight to be with them eating chicken and rice with yogurt. Food is eaten without utensils, using only the right hand! Another room in the house is used to give his patients 24 hour emergency treatment. Adam went to care for a poor working woman who had suffered heat stroke. She was on an IV drip, receiving her 2nd bag of fluids. I went in and prayed for her as she lay there with two family members nearby.

The temperature here was 107 degrees today. Yes, it felt like an oven. Yet, as we ate, I asked Marysha to sing a song she teaches the children she often reaches out to in the village. The joy of the Lord shines with a pure twinkle in her eyes and a bright smile on her face. As she sang, her voice expressed a purity of faith that almost seemed angelic. I have no doubt that God was listening and smiling! These people have so very little, but are enriched with love and joy as they serve the Lord. I fear that many of us have lost the essence of real life. Sadly, we think that acquiring more “stuff” or experiencing some pleasure will make us happy.

After 12 years of marriage, Sundar Raj and Marysha, have no children. However, they are building a house where they can take in orphans and nurture them with Christ’s love. After we give training tomorrow to 40 ECC church planters, we will participate in a free medical clinic where Dr. Adam, Sundar Raj and Marysha will treat 150 poor villagers. It will be a full day of ministry with 3 hours drive each way. May God give us strength!

Blessings, Roger

A New Day Dawns Upon the South Pacific

July 1 2013

A New Day Dawns Upon the South Pacific

Wednesday on an island in the South Pacific

How do you reach 150 million people dominated by a religion that often opposes the Gospel and seeks to intimidate the followers of Jesus? Let’s start with prayer, and lots of it! Prayer is all about what God can do, and there are no limits with Him.

In his book, Touch the World through Prayer, Wesley Duewel says that “God has ordained to work through the prayers of his people. Prayer releases God’s power. He is waiting for your intercession and mine.” Why then do we hesitate and sometimes even avoid time to seek God’s face? It has often been said, the Devil trembles when he sees, God’s weakest child on his knees. So, let us pray!

Many people here have learned to pray. I spent some time with Budi, early this morning. He teaches at the Bible seminary OMS started here many years ago. His wife recently finished chemo treatments following her surgery for breast cancer. It has been a rough road for them to travel. Nevertheless, the fire in his heart burns brightly for his fellow countrymen still without the Savior. He has successfully given leadership to a growing movement of 16 house churches that are connected to a mother church he is pastoring. By training ordinary believers to lead these groups, the light of Christ is penetrating the darkness. His own life and prayers bear witness to the fact that faith is the victory!

Pastor Adi is another national co-worker with vision and tireless determination to share the Good News. This dynamic servant of Jesus is small in stature but speaks with a booming voice. He is helping empower regular men and women to plant and shepherd satellite churches that are touching and transforming lives. Since January, 54 persons have met the Savior through his commitment to train and equip others. So far he has supervised the starting of 4 satellite churches. One meets in a room on a university campus dominated by another religion! He has two other new areas where groups are meeting and will soon become satellite churches. One is situated in a military compound. . . . Onward Christian soldiers!

Thursday, in Singapore travelling on to India

As you can see, my time spent with key church leaders in the South Pacific is bearing fruit. My co-worker Dean and I are thrilled to see God beginning to move among our OMS related churches in fresh ways as they learn to reach lost people through the multiplication of new churches. Our 3+ days of training and warm fellowship was time well invested in God’s kingdom. After 48 hours of travel to get there, my body is weary, but my heart is rejoicing in God’s goodness.

Now I move on to India, anticipating the challenges and blessings that await me there. Will you join me in prayer before the throne of grace? I am depending on your intercession to uphold, strengthen and anoint my ministry with Jesus. Thank you!

Sharing Christ, the Hope of the world, Roger

Hello Again!

March 14 2013

Hello Again!

Let me introduce you to 3 of our ECC church planters. We are in awe of what they are accomplishing for the kingdom of God!

Of the 64 who participated in the training, two were women. Narinder, is around 45 years old, and has been a widow for nearly 10 years. She lives in the village of Kaler, in the state of Punjab. She has started up 2 house churches and is training two others to reach 2 more villages. Kashmiro is somewhat younger than Narinder, but has also been used by God to plant one church group. Fifty people meet weekly in her home for worship. Kashmiro, from a Sikh background, was wonderfully healed of an emotional/mental condition 6 years ago. Now she is known as a prayer warrior with a great burden to serve the Lord.

Whatever she learns she applies immediately. Glenda and I challenged Kashmiro to pursue regular meetings with a person of peace in the neighboring village. She will pray for needs, share Bible stories, and has a goal of starting a house church there by June. Both ladies hear Bible stories from their T&M trainer and then pass them on to their people. We encouraged them to keep in touch weekly by phone along with monthly visits to pray together and celebrate what God is doing! They live 30 km away from each other.

We also spoke with Ujjwal Sardar, a 40 year old man from the Sunderban Islands, in West Bengal, near Bangladesh. He loves to write and sing songs that tell stories of God’s grace. He does so with great emotion and dramatic gestures. He was a farmer who was earning only $3 dollars a day and trying to support his wife and 3 children. His father got very sick and the family was desperately seeking help from the Hindu gods as well as medical people.

Nothing changed.

It was as that time that he met our ECC team leader Patra, who shared with him the Good News of Christ. Ujjwal began to anoint his father with oil and pray for healing in Jesus’ name. His father improved dramatically. As a result, Ujjwal and his family grew strong in faith and he began sharing his faith story with others. However, one day while doing ministry, his son called him to say that someone had set their house on fire! Ujjwal quickly turned to God in prayer asking for divine intervention. Within ½ hour his son called back to say a sudden rain storm had put out the fire and the house was not destroyed! Since then, the arsonist has asked forgiveness and begun attending the house church started in the village.

Much to our amazement, Ujjwal is teaching the T&M strategy to 15 pastoral workers who are each establishing house churches on 5 different islands. Many have become followers of Jesus and in April, 500 new believers from ECC outreach around the islands will be baptized! When we asked Ujjwal, “Why such abundant fruit?” He replied, “Continuous prayer.”

ECC and Train & Multiply

January 28 2013

ECC and Train & Multiply

In October 2012, leaders from One Mission Society’s Every Community for Christ and Project WorldReach met together to formalize their joint venture and make plans for the future. The two organizations now join hands to train more leaders who will share the Gospel message and begin dynamic communities of believers around the world (“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others” -2 Timothy 2:2, NIV).

Dean Davis, international director of Every Community for Christ says, “With this joint venture, we are participating in an eternal plan. With Project WorldReach’s Train & Multiply© (T&M) training materials in the hands of OMS’ missionaries and national coworkers around the world, much can be accomplished for the kingdom.” OMS currently uses T&M effectively in 17 countries, in 24 languages.

Davis says, “As we’ve used the T&M materials, we have seen entire regions become filled with small, multiplying churches of Gospel-sharing, disciple-making believers, thus saturating these regions with the Gospel, reminding us of God’s promise in Isaiah 11:9, ‘The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.’”

Project WorldReach founder and president, Lloyd Niles, says, “I’m in the right place, at the right time, with the right people. I’m excited about this partnership with OMS. I see God putting us together to expand the ability for both organizations to reach the world for Christ, using one of the most simple but powerfully effective tools that was divinely created … the T&M booklets.”

Project WorldReach, a Canadian-based organization, holds the copyright (now shared with OMS) to the practical and field-tested T&M training materials. PWR has an established process to effectively translate, format and publish the 63 pastoral training booklets. To date, the materials have been translated in 37 languages.

One Mission Society focuses on intentional evangelism, planting indigenous churches, training national leaders and joining national workers, churches and other ministries from around the world to reach the nations for Christ. OMS cofounder, Charles Cowman said, “I cannot think that God’s heart can be satisfied with the salvation of just a few, when His great heart yearns over the millions.” Both organizations know that this joint venture is of God for such a time as this. They anticipate big things to come in the near future, knowing the hand of God is moving.

Dean Davis and Lloyd Niles talk about the joint venture in this video.
