Training the Ready

June 18 2015

A pastor in the south has been working in some of the islands in SE Asia. His initial training was in 2013. He has been working with uneducated peoples but with considerable success. During this visit, A. conducted T&M training in this province for 27 students. Most were from his church and about 20 were native to that area. A. taught for four hours without a break because the students did not want him to stop! The pastor estimates that perhaps ten worshiping groups will be born from this first generation.

Person of Peace - part 2

June 16 2015

One day, Samita went from her village to the market in town to buy food. She met Saroz, a young woman she knew, and talked about what she and her husband were doing. When Saroz heard about Jesus, she exclaimed, “You must have your husband call me and tell me more!” Samita called Anil right away, and Anil promised to visit Saroz later that same day.

Anil visited Saroz in the home where she lived with her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, and their children. Saroz listened eagerly to all that Anil told her, and she believed in Jesus. Anil discipled Saroz, and seeing her commitment and obedience to make disciples, invited her to become a church planter. She joyfully accepted and regularly shared the Good News with her family. Within a short time, all eight people in her home believed in Jesus Christ and formed a new house church. Saroz also went to her uncle’s home and led him and three others to the Lord. She then began training them in the same way that Anil was training her.

After a few months, Saroz’s sister came to visit from her village some 15 kilometers away. When Saroz told her sister about Jesus, her sister pleaded, “Please come and tell my husband and family about this!”

Saroz went to her sister’s home a few days later, accompanied by Anil. They shared the Gospel and five people confessed their faith in Jesus Christ, and another house church began in the sister’s home.

Saroz still closes the door and shutters when her house church gathers for worship in order not to disturb the neighbors. However, she is not afraid to share her faith and consistently tells her friends the Good News about Jesus.

Young Adults are Our Future

May 27 2015

The future growth in the Philippines will come from the tremendous group of college-age young people God is raising up. We saw their enthusiasm and potential when we visited the Don Mariano Marcos State University in La Union.

We met the Dagupan team at the National Lay Leaders' Training in Baguio (more than half of the lay leaders were from this age group), and at the Banaba House Ministry retreat for 17 young people, primarily children of ECC workers and pastors.

These young adults are catching the vision of church multiplication through T&M training and desire to spread the Gospel throughout the Philippines and elsewhere. They come to the training events and return home excited and ready to apply what they learned. They are starting groups on their campuses and in their communities.

One young lady attended the training in La Union. She committed to start a group with two friends on campus. She started with nine! The group has now grown to 20 members. She is training three leaders in order to divide the group so that it may continue to grow. The members lead worship teams and are involved in children’s and youth ministries in their local churches.

We believe that many of these young people will be the future T&M trainers in the regional training centers, and the church planters and pastors needed for the developing house churches.

Train & Multiply: On the Right Track

April 7 2015

Last week, we introduced you to Train & Multiply. This church multiplication method has been used in amazing ways to advance the kingdom of God.

But how exactly does T&M work?

One important distinction between T&M and other discipleship programs is its emphasis on leadership development. While the 64 booklets include resources on evangelism and discipleship, its strength lies in the development of healthy, well-equipped leaders, who are essential to a church multiplication movement. Without solid leadership to guide new church plants, multiplication will be slow and ineffective.

Here is an illustration of the Train & Multiply process:

One rail is labeled “pastoral work.” Every person involved in T&M is also involved in some form of ministry. It might be a simple church, a small group, or simply working with their family and friends. They have some place to immediately apply what they are learning. T&M is not training for ministry, it is training in ministry.

The second rail is labeled “home study.” A T&M participant learns through weekly study of God’s Word, the T&M pastoral worker training booklets, and practical experience. T&M booklets are simple and practical biblical training guides. They are easily accessible. They can be used anywhere, at any time, with any number of people. And they only cost what it takes to print them.

But what ties this all together are the railroad ties labeled “meeting with trainer.” Each T&M participant has a trainer who provides coaching and mentoring. Meeting biweekly or monthly, this trainer guides the participant through the leadership development process. They help the student plant their pastoral work and choose what to study. The trainer also encourages and holds the participant accountable.

What is T&M?

April 2 2015

What might happen if we could mobilize ordinary people to go into the great harvest fields at our doorsteps and start church multiplication movements?

In 2013, by the grace of God and through the ministry of One Mission Society, ordinary people did an extraordinary thing – they started more than 19,500 worshiping groups. They did this by being empowered by the Holy Spirit and by being equipped with a simple tool – Train and Multiply (T&M).

So just what is Train and Multiply?

Train and Multiply is a comprehensive leadership development program to help start and organize reproducing local churches, which can lead to a church multiplication movement.

It starts slow, with just a few people, but builds into a rapidly multiplying movement of disciples, leaders, and churches. In one-on-one or small group settings, motivated believers learn how to share their faith, how to disciple new believers, and how to gather those new disciples into healthy, growing churches. These disciples and churches then multiply themselves through 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and even 5th generations. And in the process, the disciples learn how to become strong, effective leaders.

T&M is a unique, menu-based leadership training/coaching approach that provides simple, easy-to-understand biblical training guides to equip ordinary Christians to start multiplying movements of disciples, churches, and leaders.

In the next five years (2015-2020), the goal is to start 414,000 new worshiping groups with the use of Train and Multiply.

We credit a very simple truth with the success of T&M:

Ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they are empowered by the Holy Spirit and equipped with the right tools.

What Might Happen?

March 31 2015

What might happen if we could mobilize ordinary people to go into the great harvest fields at our doorsteps and start church multiplication movements? Ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they are empowered by the Holy Spirit and equipped with the right tools. T&M a powerful tool to help ordinary people do this; it is a process to help ordinary people start healthy worshiping groups that will multiply.

The founder of T&M discovered a simple but powerful paradigm modeled by Jesus and taught by Paul:

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach other (2 Timothy 2:2 NIV).

CPM - Second Week

August 13 2013

CPM - Second Week

We are in the second week of the CPM Workshop at OMS Headquarters. Participants serving in many different cultures are challenged to pick a process and create a plan to implement upon their return to their field of ministry. Some have decided upon Train and Multiply (T&M) and others Training for Trainers (T4T).

Pictured above is the 2013 Church Planting Movements Group; delegates, facilitators and prayer warriors. The Lord always brings the right people at the right time for training to move His kingdom forward. Please keep this group in your prayers as they work on their ministry plans this week and begin implementing them in the days, weeks and years to come.
