OUTREACH Magazine

OUTREACH Magazine

OMS Outreach magazine equips Christians to make disciples of Jesus Christ through informative, inspiring, and involvement-driven articles, which leads to deeper mission participation by serving, giving, and praying.

As of May 2016, the number of pages for the print version of OMS Outreach decreased, but the online version, Outreach Online, will include bonus stories and digital links. You can read and subscribe to Outreach Online here.

By donating to Outreach below or any OMS ministries, you will continue to receive the print version of the magazine for the next two years. Others will be removed from the mailing list soon.

“The official publication of One Mission Society has had many changes in name through the years, but never in purpose.”

We found this quote in an old Outreach file box in the archives, dated from the early 1970s. It’s exciting to realize that even today, more than 100 years after OMS was founded, our purpose remains the same: to inform and inspire people about, and involve them in, fulfilling the Great Commission through going, giving, sending and praying.

In November 1902, OMS cofounder Ernest Kilbourne, a trained journalist, began sending telegrams from Japan that were then typed and distributed to U.S. constituents. These messages became known as Electric Messages, which were the inspiring stories of changed lives on the field. But it wasn’t until 1914 that an official publication was formed, The Oriental Missionary Standard. This name lasted until September 1944, when it was renamed The Oriental and InterAmerican Missionary Standard. This was done when OMS expanded its missionary services outside the Asian world. Then, from October 1949 until April 1973, it was called The Missionary Standard—again to be sensitive to the expanding OMS mission fields. Since then, it has been known as OMS Outreach.
